This is about taking a different approach to being 'Agile'.
Do you hear people say 'You must do this to be agile' or 'In agile, we don't do that'. Well, I've never been one for rules. I prefer something more like the pirates' code; I'm far more about guidelines!
I want to talk about how agile is often viewed as a destination, and end point for an 'Agile Transformation'. This makes little sense, as we can't ever be 'done' getting to agile. Instead, I want to explore why it is far more like a journey.
We're all on a journey to be better tomorrow than we were today. This is called 'growth' whether we are a company or an individual. We all start in different places, and need different things at different times.
Our position on the path of our journey is only interesting in its relationship to ourselves. Rather than comparing ourselves to other travellers, we need to ask for help on our journey and to offer help to others as WE ALL navigate the tricky bits.
This means our own agile journey's are about building a community and helping our fellow travellers. Anything that inhibits us from coming together for our mutual benefit doesn't serve us on our journey, but its all too easy to find yourself defending someone else's castle!
